When it comes to housing choices, the New Silver Spring will soon be offering a medley of homes that should play well with those who want to live, work and play in one convenient location.

  • The Tower Companies has developed new apartments called The Blairs on Colesville Road. The company also added new shops, a larger supermarket and updated the high-rise Blair Plaza apartments as part of a $52 million remodeling.
  • Silver Spring Square, LLC, a member of the JBG family of companies, is building the Silverton Condominium - 210 innovative condominiums, integrating the new with the historic at the Art Deco Canada Dry building.
  • The JBG Companies are in the early development phases of Silver Spring Gateway, a 6-acre, mixed-use project that will include 460 apartment residences and over 20,000 square feet of retail.
  • Foulger-Pratt Development, Inc. is building 230 luxury apartments next door to its headquarters for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, home to 4,000 employees. This 12-story community is one block from Metrorail, and will provide upper floor residents with a panorama of the new downtown.
  • Foulger-Pratt and WMATA have ambitious plans to build a transit center project atop the bus terminal next to the Metrorail that will add 250 apartments, a 150-room hotel and offices to that bustling location.

  • The Downtown Silver Spring partnership is planning mid-rise apartments at Cedar Street, next to the ice-skating rink, civic building and plaza that Montgomery County is building in the downtown.
  • New condominiums are planned for East-West Highway, too, making those homeowners next-door neighbors to Discovery’s Creative and Technology Center. Two blocks to the south, 150 apartments are slated for the Gramax Building by RST Developers, in a challenging transformation of a former office building.

According to real estate professionals, the nearby communities of Woodside, Sligo Creek, Takoma Park and Washington’s 16th Street corridor are well established and have long been popular. Couple those neighborhoods with good schools and easy Beltway access and Silver Spring is a “can’t miss” location. With a wide array of new retail, restaurant and entertainment amenities, Silver Spring is perfectly positioned as a new crossroads of commerce in the Washington, DC area.
